Monteverro
Monteverro lies at the foot of the small mediaeval town of Capalbio on the southern edge of Tuscany in Maremma, a region well-known for its originality and tradition. The vineyard estate is located in proximity of the coast, only a twenty-minute journey from LA ROQQA Hotel, and is characterised by its unusual slopes on stony, red clay soil. But it is also the people that make Monteverro so unique. The pure pleasure of wine commits us to uncompromising manual work and selection in the vineyards, and through precision and innovative technology in the cellar, we are ultimately helping every wine variety, every location and every vintage to achieve their optimum expression.
Le Mortelle
Le Mortelle is located in the heart of the Tuscan Maremma, a few kilometres from Castiglione della Pescaia (GR) and one hour drive from LA ROQQA Hotel, in an extraordinary and fascinating position both for nature and for the history of the places that surround it. The estate, owned by the Antinori family, covers 270 hectares, 170 of which are dedicated to vines. The underground cellar, located on the top of the hill, is in perfect harmony with the surrounding countryside. On the horizon, the sea of Maremma and the island of Giglio can be admired.
Rocca di Frassinello
Inaugurated in the heart of the Tuscan Maremma on June 30, 2007, the Rocca di Frassinello winery was born as a joint venture between Castellare di Castellina and Domaines Barons de Rothschild-Château Lafite, an unmistakable name in the greatest wines of France and of the world. A project in the centre of Maremma, between Bolgheri and Montalcino, that benefits from the dually celebrated oenological experience of both partners. In this area, located one hour from LA ROQQA Hotel, the vine historically flourished for about 3 thousand years since the time of the Etruscans, who cultivated it by utilising surrounding trees as a support for the vines. Paolo Panerai and Barone Eric de Rothschild specifically selected the hill in front of the town of Giuncarico, in the municipality of Gavorrano, as the ideal place to cultivate vineyards. Here a constant breeze is channelled from the sea, wicking moisture and moderating the climate both in winter and summer. It took two years to unite the five plots that make up the estate's 500 hectares, of which 83 are planted to vine. With conscious attention to environmental sustainability, the attentive project preserved forests inside the property boundaries encouraging biodiversity. Vineyards of Sangioveto, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah and Vermentino give birth to wines that combine the best of Italy and France. To further validate the international ambitions of the estate, the architect Renzo Piano signed the project of the cellar: an elegant and highly functional building on the highest hill of the amphitheatre of Rocca di Frassinello.
Tenuta Ammiraglia - Frescobaldi
Just a 45 minute drive from LA ROQQA, Tenuta Ammiraglia - Frescobaldi embodies the essence of Tuscany, its extraordinary vocation for viticulture and the diversity of its territories. Frescobaldi’s uniqueness stems precisely from the representation of this diversity, from its estates and from wines which express a kaleidoscope of aromas and sensations, springing from the characteristics of each individual terroir. Behind every Frescobaldi wine lies the passion of our agronomists and oenologists, who know our vineyards and terroirs down to the finest detail. Their art, creating quality wines, requires the iron rule of respect. Respect for our tradition, which guides us, even in the midst of innovation or avantgarde solutions. Respect for Tuscany, our living land, to be cultivated in harmony and serenity. Respect for each individual terroir, borne of a unique combination of soil, altitude and microclimate, each giving us a wine with its own matchless personality.
Val delle Rose jeep & tasting
After an introduction to the history of Val delle Rose Winery and its territory, we will take you to discover the fascinating world of Wine. We will explain the secrets of the harvest, the winemaking process and ageing. Excursion with the jeep through the vineyards of Val delle Rose, on one of our private paths. Our guests will enjoy the beauty of our surroundings, with our jeep driving along the path “Poggio Leone” (approx. 4 km long), to stop on the panoramic spot under a big cork tree, where guests can enjoy an authentic pic-nic tasting two of our wines, paired with local food: seasonal bruschettas, cheeses and cold cuts.
Bolgheri
Bolgheri wine history is as young as extraordinary, and its wines have managed to conquer the first places in the world rankings in a very short time, “challenging” the famous Doc and Docg. It will be an experience to be enjoyed pedalling along the small streets of the countryside, from the sea to the hills, and up and down between vineyards, panoramas of the Tuscan coast and the island of Elba on the horizon, Capraia and on the clearest days Corsica. During our journey we will visit some of the most important wineries in the area, where we will have the opportunity to visit their cellars and taste their wines, including the Super Tuscan. Lunch break at the wine shop of Tenuta San Guido, where we can taste the famous Sassicaia. You cannot miss visiting the small village of Bolgheri that we will reach by riding along the famous avenue of cypresses, also mentioned by poets.
